UK doctor passive income report July 2021: £3,446 and new car!
July was another great month for passive income mining as the three main streams trickled in the background. I think moving forward I can finally post monthly income reports as the numbers are now more meaningful than when I first began recording progress in 2016.
The goal of financial independence has always been to create a sustainable way to enjoy a fulfilling life. People who misunderstand the concept unfortunately fall into the trap of thinking it’s all about retiring early, but early retirement with a low quality of life will just be a miserable one.
This week was also a sad one as my 2006 mercedes beater just failed its MOT for the third year in a row except this time it’ll set me back about £1,000 on top of the £1,500 I’ve already spent on it in repairs over the past 12 months. Perhaps it’s a sign from above that it’s time to get a newer model but it’s difficult to let go when my car has helped me so much over the years.
Almost feels like I’m referring to an ex-girlfriend (!) but even though I’m so attached to this car which was my first I’m probably going to have to let her go.
After the phenomenal test drive of the 2018 car I paid about £33,600 in cash for it and although perhaps a surprising splurge to those who know me or follow this blog, the way I look at it is it’s 1 year of passive income that can always be earned back. The superior safety, possible fewer repairs and eye candy factor is worth it, I try to convince myself?
The interesting lifestyle inflation I’m currently choosing to go through by living in a nice house and driving an expensive car is actually another experiment which I’ll write about in a future post.
