gyms reopened a month ago in scotland so I’ve been trying to shift some of that covid “gain”. I think some form of daily exercise is crucial especially for people like us with “intellectual” or sedentary jobs. this can be viewed as almost equivalent to a manual labourer reading a book or engaging in stimulating thought for at least 30 minutes a day.

after one month of moderate intensity training I’m grateful my bench press and squat strength has already returned to pre-covid levels.

it’s been a relatively average quarter for passive income as I reckon I’ve made about £1,500. this can be viewed as £500 a month, probably equivalent thereabouts to standard rental income on an average scottish property after expenses etc. in terms of active investing I appreciate making about £5,400 this quarter. however I don’t feel this is sustainable at all but nevertheless very welcome as my research salary is currently relatively low.

just because we’re paid a fixed monthly income doesn’t necessarily mean we should limit ourselves to this artificial ceiling. although I agree not trying too hard is the way to go (to avoid burnout) we perhaps should also not fall into the nihilism trap and feel that no amount of effort matters for anything.
