Physique Update & Quarterly Passive Income Report Q2 2018

Physique update

Since mid-March I’ve put my body through quite a busy training programme, waking up at 0530 every morning. The gaps you see are either due to the twenty or so 14-hour night shifts from March, the odd rest day or actually a workout did happen in my home gym in Glasgow.

After a pretty rough first week into a healthy diet, I’ve actually had very little in the way of junk but my caloric intake has been all over the place. Sometimes I eat 2,500kcal but there are days I reach 5,000kcal. I’ve learned that it’s not actually that difficult to reach the latter number on a clean diet if you eat lots of nuts. It’s clear to see why my weight loss is stalling and despite incorporating seven 36-hour fasts over the past month I’m not making much further progress.

I’ve dropped down to 73.5kg @ 5ft 10 (from 82kg) which was my weight at university almost a decade ago! Surprisingly I’ve hardly lost any strength in the gym which was my main fear, or excuse for having let myself carry that much weight for so long. This is a sign that most of that weight loss is water and fat. In fact on some lifts I’ve actually gained strength.

Passive income report

Q2 is always my favourite quarter because it makes me look better than I actually am…companies seem to pay most of their dividends in this quarter and the reason for this still escapes me? Let me know in the comments section below if you know the answer.

Nevertheless there has been a further increase in passive income created compared to the same time last year despite little conscious effort:

Q2 2017: £1293.93

Apart from having an above-average interest in improving my life, I would attribute my financial achievement thus far mainly to books written by very clever people before me.

Of note, the hefty cost you see in June is my maintenance cost for this website which is steadily increasing year-on-year so if you enjoy these posts then please show your support by using my affiliate links. For example, if you want to learn how to create passive income then I have a FREE audiobook for you via that link. Books are an amazing investment you can make in yourself and although I still have a very long way to go I have reached this level from reading what intelligent people teach in their books; simply cancel the free trial and still keep your book if you don’t enjoy the service at zero cost. By using my link you benefit from a free book and I receive a very small fee that can support this website and lets me continue writing these posts. Try this book, this one, this bookthis one or this one.

Having written about FIRE (financial independence, retire early) for a while now I wanted to clarify that being a great doctor and becoming financially confident are not necessarily mutually exclusive endeavours. Just as much as being a great doctor and a great dad/mum can go hand in hand with each other. Like keeping fit it’s not always easy or fun but definitely worthwhile and anything worth having in life is usually a struggle!

Have a great weekend, coz I’m stuck doing nights again.

  • Hi Rory,

Just wanted to ask about CT1 applications, is there any advice you’d give to bolster my application? I have literally got nothing from medical school so no points there and no research either, in F1 right now and am planning on applying for CT1 next year.

    Thanks
